While charcuterie boards have recently gained popularity in the culinary world, traditional ploughman's lunches have a long history dating all the way back to the 1800's. Wood slabs filled with bread, cheese and sliced meats made for an affordable yet hearty meal for men working long days in the fields.
Traditional as a ploughman's lunch may be, the Burch Barrel Ploughman's Board can be used as a serving tray, cheese board, charcuterie board or as a cutting board. Each board is entirely handcrafted from American Black Walnut. We chose this particular wood as it is hard enough to hold up over time but won't dull or damage knives with long-term use.
Each board is sustainably sourced from high-grade lumber in Williamsport, PA and pretreated with premium food-grade mineral oil.
Please keep in mind each Ploughman's Board is individually handcrafted and thus each board will vary slightly in color, grain and variation. Each board is truly unique and one of a kind.

Care
Like all wood products, each Ploughman's Board should be cared for properly and treated with food-grade mineral oil on a regular basis in order to last a lifetime.
After each use, rinse the board to clear food from the surface. Use lemon juice or white vinegar if your board becomes stained. Wash with light soap and warm water. Dry the majority of the water with a towel and let air dry standing up.
Do not put the board in the dishwasher, use bleach or let it soak in a sink full of water.
To extend the life of your board, use a food grade oil or cream substance on a regular basis. Do not use vegetable, corn, olive, peanut or walnut oil on your board. If you have any questions about maintenance, please don't hesitate to contact us.
